What stays in your browser
Spec Grab has no accounts and no database of your work. Everything below is stored only in your own browser, on the device you are using:
- The documents you load, and the text read out of them
- Your saved projects and their names (va_index_v1, va_proj_โฆ)
- Your question and answer history
- Your free-question count (sg_trial_v1) and unlock code (sg_license_v1)
The files themselves are never uploaded. PDFs, Word files, Excel workbooks and CSVs are opened and read by code running inside your browser. Scanned pages are read by OCR that also runs in your browser. The original file never goes anywhere.
What leaves your browser
Three things leave your device, and only these three:
| What | Goes to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The text extracted from your documents, plus your question and the conversation so far | Anthropic (the AI provider) | To produce the answer. Sent only when you ask a question. |
| Your email and payment details | Stripe | Handled entirely on Stripe's own checkout page. Spec Grab never sees or stores your card details. |
| Your subscription reference | Stripe | To check the subscription is still active when you ask a question. |
Anthropic does not use data sent through its API to train its models, and retains it only for a limited period for safety and abuse monitoring. If your documents are confidential, please read the responsibility section in the Terms before loading them โ whether you are permitted to send that text anywhere is a decision only you can make.
Server logs and third-party code
The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs โ IP address, browser type, time of request โ for operational and security purposes. The document-reading libraries (pdf.js, SheetJS, mammoth and Tesseract) are loaded from Cloudflare's public CDN, which means Cloudflare can see your IP address when your browser fetches those files, as it would for any website using them.
What we never do
- No analytics. There is no tracking script of any kind on this site.
- No advertising, and no sharing or selling of anything to anyone.
- No accounts, so no profile of you or what you asked.
- No copy of your documents on any server belonging to Spec Grab.
- No reading of your projects. They exist only in your browser, so they cannot be looked at.
How long things are kept
- In your browser: until you delete a project, clear your browser data, or the browser clears it for you. Nobody else can remove it for you.
- At Anthropic: a limited retention period for safety monitoring, then deleted.
- At Stripe: payment records, for as long as tax and accounting rules require.
- Vercel logs: a short rolling window.
Deleting your data
Delete a project inside Spec Grab under ๐ Projects, or clear the site's data in your browser settings to remove everything at once, including your unlock code. Because none of it is held on a server, that deletion is final and there is no backup to restore from. For payment records, email us and we'll do what the law allows.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data held about you. In practice Spec Grab holds almost none: no account, no name, no documents. Your email address exists at Stripe because you paid. Email us and we'll help with anything you're entitled to.
Children
Spec Grab is a tool for construction professionals and is not intended for anyone under 18.
