Terms of Service

Last updated 30 August 2026

The short version Ask three questions free, then it's $29 a month and you can cancel any time. Answers come only from the documents you load, and you must check them against the source before you act on them. You are responsible for making sure you're allowed to upload the documents you upload.

What Spec Grab is

Spec Grab reads construction project documents you provide โ€” drawings, specifications, schedules, submittals, RFI logs โ€” and answers questions about them, citing the file and page it took each answer from. It is a search and reading aid. It is not a design tool, an estimating tool, or a substitute for the people who are responsible for the work.

The free questions and what you're buying

Anyone can ask three questions without paying. After that, a subscription unlocks the app in that browser. You are buying access for yourself; you are not buying the software, and you may not resell it or share your unlock code with people outside your company.

A subscription carries a fair-use allowance of 150 questions per calendar month. That is far more than normal use โ€” it is there so that one account cannot run up costs that the price cannot cover, since a single question can read hundreds of pages. If you reach it, the app says so and tells you the date it resets, and your saved projects and answers stay where they are. If you genuinely need more than that, get in touch and we will work something out rather than leave you stuck.

Price, renewal and cancelling

30-day money-back guarantee. If Spec Grab doesn't earn its keep, email within 30 days of your first payment and you get that money back. No argument, no form to fill in.

The documents you upload are your responsibility

Construction documents are frequently confidential. Subcontracts, non-disclosure agreements and owner security requirements often restrict who may see project drawings and specifications โ€” and those restrictions usually cover disclosure to any third party, not just file uploads. Drawings are also copyrighted works, normally owned by the architect or engineer, and your licence to use them on a project does not automatically let you send them elsewhere.

Before you load a document into Spec Grab, it is your responsibility to confirm you are permitted to. If your contract, your employer's policy, an NDA, or the project owner says otherwise, don't. This matters most on government, defence, healthcare, utility, data-centre and large corporate projects, which commonly carry explicit confidentiality obligations.

Spec Grab cannot know what you are and aren't allowed to share, and does not check. By loading a document you confirm you have the right to do so, and you accept responsibility for that decision.

Answers are a starting point, not a professional opinion

Spec Grab is built to answer only from your documents, to cite where each answer came from, to say when documents contradict each other, and to flag questions that need a human. It can still be wrong. It can miss a page, misread a scan, or answer from a superseded revision.

Check every answer against the cited source before you act on it. Nothing Spec Grab produces is engineering advice, a code determination, a contractual interpretation, or a safety assessment. Decisions about cost, scope, code compliance, schedule and safety remain with the qualified people responsible for them. If an answer would cost money or affect safety, verify it in the document and, where appropriate, with the engineer of record.

Your projects live in your browser

Saved projects, chat history and your unlock code are stored in your browser's own storage on the device you're using. They are not held in an account on a server. That means:

Acceptable use

Access may be suspended if any of the above happens.
